Former Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) sites are notorious for complex investigation and remediation. In some cases, the site and surrounding waters have been used for multiple industrial and commercial purposes for over 150 years leaving abandoned underground structures and multiple layers of contamination, including coal tar waste. Two of the main analytical concerns at MGP sites are Volatile and Semi-Volatile Organic compounds. BTEX is analyzed in the Volatile range, while a list of 17 Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) is analyzed in the Semi-Volatile range. Many investigations also include analysis for phenols, cyanide, metals, ammonia, nitrates, and sulfates/sulfides.
H2M Labs is actively involved in the testing of environmental samples from former MGP sites. Analyses are performed in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and in general, a comprehensive list of compounds is analyzed due to the complex nature of the site.
Our Project Management team understands the needs of Utility and former MGP sites concerning sampling techniques, regulatory requirements, data validation, and usability standards.
See our test list for the full scope of analysis available at H2M Labs.
Below is a list of methods and parameters commonly requested for former MGP site analysis.
